Jeffrey Sumber, MA, MTS, LCPC

I am a psychotherapist, teacher, best-selling author and rabbinical student devoted to helping people live with greater depth, courage, and authenticity in a rapidly changing world. My work weaves together psychotherapy, spiritual wisdom, relational insight, and contemplative practice to support those seeking not just symptom relief, but a more awake and meaningful life. I offer a grounded, compassionate, and deeply human space for people navigating transformation, intimacy, grief, purpose, and the sacred work of becoming fully themselves.

Psychotherapy as Craft

There was a time when certain forms of human work were understood as crafts.

The craftsperson did not merely perform a function. They practiced a way of being. Their work required attention, patience, discipline, intuition, humility, and devotion.

I believe psychotherapy belongs to this lineage.

At its best, therapy is not a product. It is not a script. It is not an algorithm. It is a living encounter between two human beings, grounded in presence, listening, courage, and care.

As artificial intelligence becomes more capable, accessible, and emotionally responsive, human therapy may no longer be the default option for everyone

But for those who still seek the irreplaceable depth of real human encounter, psychotherapy may become something closer to live music, martial arts, spiritual direction, or handmade art.

A practice.

A discipline.

A path.

A prayer.
